The RSS feature in ruTorrent is accessed via an icon in the top toolbar that resembles a Wi-Fi or broadcast signal symbol. Clicking it opens the RSS manager, where you can add feed URLs and configure automatic download filters.
Adding an RSS Feed
- Open ruTorrent in your browser. Your ruTorrent interface is at
https://SERVER.pulsedmedia.com/user-USERNAME/— replaceSERVERandUSERNAMEwith your actual server and username. - Locate the RSS icon in the top toolbar. It looks similar to a Wi-Fi or signal icon.
- Click the icon to open the RSS manager.
- Add your RSS feed URL. Most private trackers and public indexers provide a direct RSS link, sometimes with an authentication token embedded in the URL. Paste the full URL including any token.
- Save the feed. ruTorrent will begin checking it at regular intervals.
Setting Up Filters
Filters let ruTorrent automatically download torrents from a feed that match criteria you define, such as a show name, resolution, or file size range. Without filters, ruTorrent will display what is available in the feed but will not start downloads automatically.
- In the RSS manager, open the filter or auto-download section.
- Create a new filter and associate it with the feed you added.
- Enter a pattern or keyword to match against torrent names in the feed. Entering a show title will match any release containing that title.
- Set any additional constraints such as minimum or maximum file size to exclude very small or very large files.
- Optionally, specify a download directory so matched torrents land in a particular folder.
- Save the filter. ruTorrent will check the feed on its update interval and start matching torrents automatically.
Common Use Cases
- Private tracker automation: Private trackers typically expose a personal RSS feed URL from your account settings page. Adding this feed with a filter for a specific show, artist, or category means new uploads matching your criteria start downloading immediately without manual checking.
- TV show episode automation: Set a filter matching a show name and a quality tag such as 1080p or 720p. Each time a new episode appears in the feed, ruTorrent picks it up automatically — no additional software required.
- Batch releases and discographies: RSS filters work equally well for music and software releases from indexers that expose per-category feeds.
Tips
- Keep your RSS token private. Private tracker RSS URLs usually contain an authentication token. Treat the full URL like a password — do not share it.
- Check the update interval. ruTorrent polls feeds on a set schedule. If you need faster pickup, check whether your tracker supports shorter intervals.
- Test with a broad filter first. Before narrowing a filter with multiple criteria, start broad to confirm the feed is loading and matching. Tighten the pattern once results appear.
- Duplicate downloads: If you add the same feed twice or create overlapping filters, ruTorrent may queue the same torrent more than once. Review your feed list and filters if you notice duplicates.
