No.
Unfortunately, we cannot enable custom kernel modules such as TUN/TAP, required for VPNs, or FUSE, on our VPS and other server offerings.
Reasons for this limitation:
- Scalability and Reliability:
- Our infrastructure is designed to operate at a large scale, prioritizing stability and consistent performance for all our customers.
- Enabling custom kernel modules would necessitate maintaining hundreds, potentially thousands, of unique server configurations. This level of customization significantly increases the complexity of our systems, making it extremely difficult to ensure reliable operation across our entire platform.
- Resource and Cost Implications:
- Implementing and supporting each custom kernel module request would require substantial engineering and support resources.
- The time spent on individual customizations, even a seemingly small amount, would accumulate significantly across our customer base. For example, even an average of one extra hour of support per customer per month would necessitate a significant price increase, potentially exceeding 30€ per service, to cover the additional costs and the need for more support staff.
- Rigorous Quality Assurance (QA) for VPS:
- For our VPS offerings, we maintain strict QA standards to guarantee reliability, performance, security, and manageability.
- Integrating and validating custom kernel modules would require extensive testing, which can easily take several days per module, to ensure that they do not introduce vulnerabilities or negatively impact system stability.
- Implementing a custom kernel module would require a new kernel to be built, and tested, which takes significant time.
In essence, while we understand the desire for specific kernel modules, the operational and financial implications of supporting them at our scale make it infeasible. Our focus remains on providing a stable, reliable, and cost-effective service for all our customers.
