Experimental 2011 servers
We received the 12HDD "monster servers" as we like to call them. And we are trying to get them to perform.
Storage performance is peculiar, it is extremely low for this kind of a server. Sequential read reaches close to 4 cheap, small HDD level, random access reaches barely better than single high performance HDD.
The provider is trying to solve this, but as a backup they have reserved us several smaller servers if the performance of these 12 HDD servers cannot be set to wanted level.
These are HP servers, and hardware raid. We've had similar experience with HP servers in the past, abysmal storage performance, but a 6HDD server outperformed this 12HDD server multiple times over, and random access was actually decent on those. We expected this higher end model to offer no such weak spots. So, let's hope they simply have somekind of configuration issue!
