We performed a switch upgrade to one of the IDS switches, responsible for most 1Gbit connected servers.
It has been very successfull and we already see a dramatic increase in total bandwidth utilization - despite not expecting a big increase in total transit utilization being an IDS.

Further, this was to simply test the switch model and our edge router will be upgraded to same series in near future.
Our current edge has insufficient buffers to handle the 1Gbps<>10Gbps transitions well enough, causing slower than expected per thread transfer speeds. The new model will have 8 times as much buffering capability for transmitted data, allowing it to properly time the packets for a free dataflow.

We are hoping the new edge will sustain our bandwidth requirements for a year or more forwards.
