Good news for everyone who runs PMSS, the Pulsed Media Software Stack, on their own server: release 2026-09-28 is out, and the default install works again.

The install command in our README fetches the latest release. Until 3 October that was still 2026-01-21, and on a fresh server its updater stopped with an error while the installer still reported success. The box looked installed, but had no web server and no FTP. I cut the new release from code that was already running on one of our own servers, then installed it on a clean Debian 12 machine and watched it through: about six minutes, no errors, web server and FTP running.

What is in it

2,834 commits since January. The ones you will notice:

  • The updater refuses to quietly install older code over newer, and falls back to a plain HTTPS download when git clone fails.
  • The user panel gains a browser shell console, a backup and guided restore for your torrent client settings, and opt-in email alerts for traffic, disk quota and failed media apps.
  • The lighttpd watchdog now recovers user web servers stuck answering 502.
  • Root never runs an installed Radarr, Sonarr or similar media app, not even to read its version. The rtorrent, Deluge and FileBot builds and the installer scripts download over HTTPS with checksum checks.

Everything else is in the full release notes.

How to install

On a minimal Debian 12 server, as root:

wget -qO /tmp/pmss-install.sh https://github.com/MagnaCapax/PMSS/raw/main/install.sh && bash /tmp/pmss-install.sh

That installs this release.

How to update

Already running PMSS? cat /etc/seedbox/config/version tells you your channel. On the release channel, run /scripts/update.php release. Tracking main, run /scripts/update.php git/main.

On 2026-01-21, please update. Its updater could leave Radarr or Sonarr running as root; the release notes say what to check afterwards.

Releases are now automated

Eight months between releases was too long, so I automated it. When our daily full test run passes on a real server, that exact code is released automatically, but only if every CI check is green, no showstopper issue is open, and at least four weeks have passed since the last release. If anything falls short, it waits. This first one I cut by hand.

Pulsed Media seedbox and storage box customers

Nothing to do. Our servers follow PMSS development directly and keep updating as usual.
