If you move data between two of your Pulsed Media boxes, those transfers are now considerably faster. We tracked down and fixed a routing quirk that had been quietly throttling box-to-box speed on the same network, and the improvement is already live.

The symptom was a strange one: full public-internet speed on a machine, yet a crawl when moving data between two boxes on the same network. The cause was a "hairpin" — because of a too-narrow netmask, a box treated its same-network neighbour as if it lived far away and sent the traffic up to the gateway and straight back out again, instead of across the wire directly. The path was always there; the configuration simply wasn't letting the two talk like the neighbours they are.

Once we restored the direct route, single-stream transfers went from a few MB/s to around 55 MB/s, and multi-stream to 130–200 MB/s — roughly a 10× to 69× improvement depending on the path. We also corrected the template that produced the quirk in the first place, so machines built from here on are born with the right routing.

A customer report helped us catch this, and we are grateful for it — sharp reports make for sharp fixes. There is nothing you need to do; the improvement is already in place, and if anything about your transfers ever seems off, our support is always open to you.
