New US servers entering limited production!
New US servers are going to enter into limited production during this week. After week's trying to get all of it to work, i think we got these stable now! :)
The problem lied in the fact that these are bigger servers, with 1Gbps uplinks, we have to divide them using virtualization, but full virtualization is too heavy, so we have to rely on paravirtualization, as in OpenVZ.
They gave us extra IPs from another subnet, which meant that OpenVZ does not work. OpenVZ does not support by standard using IPs from separate subnet. In the end it's an easy fix, just change vz.conf setting NEIGHBOURHOOD_DEVS from detect to all. But finding that solution, and pinpointing it to that took a lot of time, and tons of blaming game between a management company and the server provider.
Then we changed from HyperVM to Proxmox as HyperVM is too much for these servers, we simply don't need all those features etc. Well, what i wasn't told, or pretty much anyone for that matter, is that Proxmox OpenVZ second level quotas work reaaally bizarrely. You got to kind of take the second level quotas "at face-value" and trust the files actually are there.
The thing is that you for some reason cannot see the aquota files, so be damned certain you don't compile quota from sources, and that you have backed up these symbolic links, as that if those links disappear, there's not a chance to restore as you need to know the full path to the files. Wouldn't be a problem if you'd see the damn files :O
Another thing still unknown is that will the quota grace periods work, we shall see.
Anyways, they work, are fast and stable in our testing, so we are entering them to limited production.
Meaning there is a set capacity - and no more. We will not immediately purchase new servers, we will run with these servers and see how it goes before committing to new servers. We are very hopeful tho, and it looks like these will perform better than the French servers! :)
Want to move to US server?
Just open a ticket, and we'll transfer you right over! :)
