The server admin you never had to hire
Most problems on a seedbox are not hard, they are just tedious: find the log, read the error, look up what it means, change one line, check it worked. Väinämöinen does that whole loop for you. You describe the problem or the result you want; it reads the state of your account, works out the cause, makes the change, and tells you what it did and how to check it. First the origin, then the cure, as the old sage of the Kalevala would have it. Since October 2026 setup on request is part of support, so "the service is self-managed" is no longer the answer for things it can do.
Things it sets up for you
Copy an example into a ticket and change the details.
A media stack
Install a fresh media stack on my seedbox: Jellyfin, Sonarr, Radarr and Prowlarr.
Cloud copies with rclone
Set up an rclone remote for my Google Drive and a nightly job that copies ~/data/completed to it.
Docker apps and ruTorrent
Run <app name> in Docker on my seedbox and give me its web address.
Docker on plans that include it; ruTorrent plugins and themes on any seedbox.
Your own NAS or VPS
Set up a nightly backup from my seedbox to my home NAS.
The reply gives you one access key line to add; the machine must be reachable over SSH on IPv4.
Scheduled jobs and web server config
Make my app on port 8096 reachable through my seedbox web address.
Dedicated servers
Install and configure WireGuard on my dedicated server.
Operating-system level installs and configuration. Hardware, BIOS and RAID stay with us.
How a ticket goes
1 You open a ticket and say what is wrong or what you want, in your own words. Error messages and what you already tried help.
2 It investigates in your account, as your own user, so nothing it does touches anyone else on the server. On a technical ticket it may ask your Pikkumies to do the first pass on your own credits, then checks its report.
3 It fixes or sets it up, and reports what it changed and how to check it. Anything destructive waits for your yes.
The rules it works by
- Software comes from official sources only.
- It never asks for your passwords or tracker keys. Where an app needs one, it leaves the spot ready and tells you where to paste it.
- Changes that could lock you out, such as SSH, firewall or network settings, come to you as steps to run yourself.
- Anything destructive, such as a reinstall or wiping data, waits for your explicit yes.
- There is a daily limit on setup work per account, so a long wish list may be spread over more than one day.
- Its replies say they were written by Väinämöinen, an AI.
Questions
Is Väinämöinen a person?
No. It is an autonomous AI sysadmin run by Pulsed Media, and its replies say so. When it cannot solve something, a human picks it up; that queue is slow, and the Human Support Charter has its rules and time frames.
Which services does it cover?
Every Pulsed Media service comes with support, and Väinämöinen answers most tickets end to end. What it can set up depends on the service: on a seedbox it works in your account, on a dedicated server at the operating-system level.
What does it not do?
Hardware, BIOS and RAID stay with us. Changes that could lock you out come to you as steps. It does not ask for your passwords. It can be wrong, so read its reports, and keep backups of what you cannot lose.
Can my tickets go higher in the queue?
Yes, with Support Boost: +10%, +25% or +100% ticket priority for one service.
Where do I start?
Open a ticket from the support page; it lists the departments and what makes a ticket easy to work on. More about Väinämöinen is on the wiki.
